Playground for children of all ages Jul 01, 2016
This is our favorite playground in the area. It is free, and parking is available. There are a small kiosk (not sure of the hours) and restrooms as well.

It is the centerpiece of El Estero Park right across the street from the ocean, and only a short walk from Fisherman's Wharf.

The playground itself is laid out nicely. Surrounded by water on three sides, but fenced off to not pose a risk for the children. The view is beautiful. Boats can be rented. There is a skate park attached. The play structures are designated for specific age groups although this is not enforced in any way. The playground is shaded in some areas, and there is grass, but also sand and mulch, so keep that in mind. There is also a full steam train engine on display when you first walk in.

My child's favorite are the two tunnels built into one of the hills and the hanging bridge. The maze is another highlight.

I highly recommend this park/area for anyone visiting Monterey with children, because we all know that overall they like to play the most, and to give them a break from relentless sightseeing will keep both children and parents happy. ;)
