The Best Way to See Mt McKilney! Nov 14, 2008
If you want to truly experience Denali (Mt McKinley) there are two ways.  First, you could take ten to 14 days to climb from the airstrip on the south side of the mountain to the eternally snow-covered south peak, spending thousands of dollars in climbing gear, food, tent, sleeping bag and climbing permit, not to mention airfare to and from the airstrip.

Alternatively, you could take a 60 minute flight from Denali Air's private airstrip ten miles south of the Denali Park Road on Alaska Highway 3.  The fully narrated flight follows the spine of the Alaska Range all the way to Denali, pointing out notable glaciers, ridges and neighboring peaks along the way.  The planes are dual-engine, non-pressurized, 6-passenger Piper Navajos (with the exception of one 8-passenger Piper Chieftan).  The views are absolutely spectacular.  Denali Air provides shuttle service to and from all of the dozens of nearby hotels/resorts/campgrounds.  For more information/reservations, check out their website:
