A little Norwegian delicacy Sep 06, 2012
Den Lille Kokosbollefabrikken is a family business owned by father and son, Ricky og Tommy Eriksen. Arriving from their home town with a secret recipe they opened their little factory in Oslo in 2005. The recipe from 1939 is based on the good old fashioned and homemade way.

I guess I should start with explaining what a "kokosbolle" is. You whip egg whites and sugar to a thick foam and make it into small rolls. Then the rolls are covered with melted chocolate. Then they are finished with different toppings.

The traditional Kokosbolle is covered with Swiss chocolate and shredded coconut and has a soft interior. 6 of these delicacies contain the same amount of calories as 1 cinnamon roll, so dig in. They contain neither milk nor flour. The chocolate roll has a biscuit base and is covered with dark or milk chocolate. They are also sprinkled with different kind of flavors.

Den Lille Kokosbollefabrikken also make different type of confectionery. These are all covered with rich Belgium chocolate with 70% coco, has different fillings and topped with different flavors.

The two outlets also serve baguettes, fresh squeezed orange juice, ice cream and a variety of hot and cold coffee and tea drinks. While you enjoy something to eat or drink you can watch the production of the Kokosbolle through the window in the café at the Sagene outlet. A large part of the production is still done by hand.

I can recommend Den Lille Kokosbollefabrikken. Their products are the best. The kokosbolle is sweet, but not too sweet like the once you can buy mass produced in the supermarkets.
