Delta King Sacramento Reviews
Riverview Dining Mar 17, 2008
The Delta King is a floating riverboat commissioned in 1927 which was used to take passengers between San Francisco and Sacramento. The 10 hour trip included prohibition era drinking, jazz bands, gambling, and fine dining. World War II and the Depression brought the end of the sternwheel era and the King was drafted into use by the US Navy for tenders, floating barracks, hospital ships, etc. After being used for spare parts and sank for 18 months, it was towed in 1984 to Old Sac wherein it underwent it's renovation. Currently, the Delta King features a hotel, fine dining, a great bar, and murder mystery dinners on board.
My neighbor is working part time as a bartender so I've gone to visit her a couple times in the last month or so. What a fun place! The view from the bar is incredible and the people there are all very nice, including the owner who I had the opportunity to meet on St. Patrick's Day.
The food is definitely pricey but everything I've had there was excellent. On St. Patrick's Day they ended up featuring the Corned Beef and Cabbage for around $14 and it was fantastic! Their desserts are also amazing - the chocolate molten cake and the lavender creme brulee were excellent. I've not tried any other entrees but have heard many people nearby compliment their steaks and salads as well.
They have the murder mystery dinners which I've heard are a lot of fun and they also have special events such as wine classes several times a month.
If for nothing else, this is a must stop for a drink and take in the view of the bridge and the Sacramento river, while admiring the beautiful restoration of the King.
