From the top of Delphi we could see a lovely circular temple.... we asked and found it was part of the Delphi site. The tickets were included in the one for the main site. We were told a lot of people miss the lower temple: Temple of Athena. The entrance was across the road. We walked down the winding path until we came to the temple... It was elegant and beautiful. It dated from the 4th and 5th century BC. Three of the columns were restored.&nb...

In life, there are little things which can make you travel kilometers to see them. Someone knowing better than you what the results of your moves will be is a good example of that. This is called an Oracle, and this very word was shaped on what was done in Delphi. The whole hellenistic world was coming there for advises and hints. Generals. Kings. High Priests. War and peaces have been made on the Pythias' prophecies, the foreseeing female priestesses of Apollo, which were also famous for bein...

One of my favorite places in the world, Delphi, has some of the most amazing views "built into" the historical park. The Temple of Apollo was one of the most awe-inspiring places in ancient times, and being there, one can understand why this place became a place of spiritual reverence. [Journal entry: "A god must live there, the ancients had to have thought, as no mere mortal could afford such beauty."] I visited Delphi two years before with the same professor and the same tour ...

My wife and I spent 15 days traveling around Greece and the Greek Islands. The people, the food, and the archaeological sites exceeded all of our expectations.

Historical significance
Delphi owed its international prominence to the famous oracle of the god Apollo, who foretold the future through his priestess, known as the Pythia. She responded to the questions of visitors while in a trance; her inarticulate cries were interpreted and written down by an official interpreter, in earlier times in hexameter verse, then later in prose. These oracular responses were notoriously ambiguous, and their interpretation was often only 'deduced' after the event...

Mum and I headed over to Delphi. For those unaware, this was the most holy place of the Greek World. It was the center of not only the world, but the universe. In their beliefs, this is where Apollo brought the Cretan preists to carry on his worship. It was where Zeus forced his father Cronos to disgorge the Omphalos stone, etc. It was also used as an Oracle by the Ancients. Everyone from Alexander the Great, to Pericles, Solon, Leonidas, and other great He...

Hmm. not sure how I managed it, but i appear to be missing a day here.. Although I am not sure where this day was misplaced, so I am just going to correct myself here and at some point, reorder things if I feel like it is entirely necessary. Anyway, the morning was left open to us to visit the site, the museum, sleep in, etc.. which I did a bit of everything. I slept in, I visited the shrine to Athena who as the half sister of Apollo was in charge of guarding the site (or so the t...

Scottie and I decided to take a bus trip up to Delphi today. I kept telling everyone that we were going there to consult with the Oracle to see what laid ahead for us for the year, as that is what most people think of when they hear the word Delphi. Delphi was the home of the major Temple of Apollo, and people came from all over Greece to his temple here to ask Apollo's advice on matters, hearing his words through temple's priests.
We caught the tour bus down nea...

In 2007 i went on a 16 country adventure through Europe and Egypt :)
Being my first massive adventure i booked alot of tours and took taxis in the beginning which i discovered i don't enjoy doing. By the end i preferred just walking around discovering things myself.
