Deloris Alba

I have stayed at the Dolores Alba more than a dozen times since the 1970's. This is not a new built from a cleared lot chain hotel. This hotel is located in a series of historic colonial buildings. A modern facility has been developed in this setting. I have always been pleased with the room, restaurant, bar and service. When I arrive at the Dolores Alba it always feels like home! Over the years I have stayed at 7 other places in Merida due to the wishes of traveling partners or the arrangement were many by my company. I have never been as satisfied as I am at the Dolores Alba. The city of Merida has a lot to offer and you can day trip dozens of sights from a home base in Merida. My review photos are of 10 different Maya ruins easily accessible in a day trips. There are at least 12 more Maya site that could be added to the review photographs.

The activity list for Merida includes The Museum of Archaeology, "Paseo de Montejo", "Monumento a la Bandera", "Ermita de Santa Isabel", University of Yucatan, "Parque de Santa Lucia", the Zoo and the main square with the Government Palace, City Hall and the house of the founder of Merida, Francisco de Montejo. When on the main square, if you look carefully you can locate Maya glyphs carved on some of the foundation of the older buildings. Merida offers several modern malls where you can buy almost anything. There is also the main market just off of the main square. This is my favorite shopping place. Mérida offers free cultural presentation every evening at various parks, the staff at the Deloris Alba can provide the schedule of venues.

Day trips from Mérida can include more than 20 Maya ruin sites; a visit to Celestun to see pink flamingos in their natural habitat; Dzibichaltun, a small Maya ruin with a swimable cenote; Progreso, for a day at the beach; Izamal, a city painted yellow, where you will find the largest Franciscan convent in all México; functioning haciendas.
