Delfini Hotel Piraeus Reviews
Really: a motel to avoid Jul 04, 2010
When there was a ferry strike in Piraeus we were not able to go out to the islands. We bought ferry tickets for the next day and asked the man in the ferry office for a recommendation for a motel. He quickly suggested the Delfini Hotel and gave us directions. We needed to have a motel near the docks as the strike might be over in the morning. David was running to the ferry terminal to check at 5 AM and 6 AM. We didn’t want him to have to go very far so we really felt this motel was the absolute best option for us.
We quickly found the Delfini Hotel and thought the lobby looked a little run down. The man at the front desk was really nice. He said the rooms were 40 Euros. We asked if we could see the rooms. He gave us four keys and Tara and I walked up to check the rooms. The rooms were pretty grim. One larger one at the end of the hall had a large bed but I was worried about getting out of the room if there was a fire. I finally settled on one on the second floor with a water bed. One bonus was we could see from the room window if there was activity at the ferry docks.
Tara settled on another room on the second floor. When we went down and told him I had decided on the waterbed he said he was saving it for another person. But then he decided we were there so he would rent to us. The rooms were not clean smelling and actually smelled of urine. Yuk. We put our suitcases on the spare bed and made sure they were zipped (to keep bugs out)…
The carpets were soiled and obviously had not been vacuumed or cleaned in a very long time. (maybe forever!!) That was bad. BUT … when we pulled down the sheets to go to bed and they were dirty and had hair on them THAT was worse!!! I slept on top of the bed spread with a towel under me and my travel blanket over me. David slept on a towel with a second towel as a blanket. We slept poorly because of the noise in the hallways. Judging from the comments and laughter we realized this motel rented rooms by the hour also! (In retrospect: no surprise) We caught as much sleep as we could and woke up early.
The bathroom was horrible. There was hair and mold in the shower and the shower curtain was filthy. I used antibacterial wipes on the toilet seat so we didn’t get some disease from using it…. Yikes…. What an adventure.
We packed our things and we were ready to go when Tara and Robert knocked on the door. We all laughed when we saw we were all carrying a suitcase.
The same nice man was at the desk the next morning. He was unhappy to see we were leaving and offered to give us the room for 25 Euros… really nice of him but we definitely decided to find another motel. We were nice to him and didn't tell him about the rooms. We figured he was doing his part and somewhere there was a maid who wasn't motivated....
We would never stay at this hotel again. End of story.
