a quick look at the temple Feb 05, 2017
Decang Temple is another one i took a quick look at although i felt that i had already seen enough temple in Lukang. The temple is dediacted to the Decang Bodhisattva and was built during the early years of the Qing dynasty and was renovated in 1815 and again in 1878. The 1815 renovation was sponsored by the Eight Guilds, which were eight trade organisations. When the Japanese arrived they used the temple as the Japanese National Language Institute until they transferred to Changhua in 1897. Decang temple consists of two buildings, the front hall and the main hall with two entrances and one inner courtyard. There is also a monument there that was erected in 1818 that depicts "Re-establish Jingyi Yuan" which was the first charitable organisation in Lukang which pursued public welfare.
