Great Small Town Museum Apr 10, 2017
I always enjoy small town museums but this one was of more interest to me than most. Erastus "Deaf" Smith was one of the most fascinating characters involved in the Texas Revolutions and I really enjoyed the opportunity to learn more about him. The Deaf Smith County Museum houses a variety of exhibits about the early history of the town and the area including replicas of a general store, a chapel, a schoolroom along with artifacts of area Indian tribes. Don't miss the miniature 3-ring circus. Outside you will find an early jail cell, a Santa Fe Railroad caboose, windmill, and other neat items. There is also the Ruby K. Sears Garden next door. Hours are 10 AM to 5 PM Monday through Friday and 10 AM to 3 PM on Saturday. Admission is FREE but donations are really appreciated and help keep the doors open.
