De Lingehoeve Oosterwijk Reviews
Staying in a Dutch farmhouse Jan 18, 2010
Slightly outside the glass and cheese city Leerdam you find a tiny village called Oosterwijk. Most buildings have been build along the dike of the very picturesque river Linge. This is a cyclists Walhalla to discover the classic Dutch polder and river landscape.
De Lingehoeve is an almost 300 years old farmhouse with a typical thatched roof.
There's enough space near the farm to park your car.
From the terrace you can look at the cows, sheep and fruit trees. This is the Betuwe.
The inside of the farmhouse has many original corner as well as decoration. It houses some lounge rooms and rooms which are in use as restaurant. We had a very fine dinner here surrounded by grandmothers furniture - even a two centuries old kitchen.
The old cheese cellar now is in use as wine cellar. Having abundantly enjoyed the products you find downstairs it is a relief to know that the complex houses some romantic guest rooms upstairs.
We had a big room under the sloping roof with dormer overlooking the polder. The room had a farmish style and we felt very comfortable in it.
Very particular - and this could be seen as stylish or as a disadvantage - was the fact that the bath room was private to the room and en suite, however could only be reached via a small public corridor.
All in all we liked the stay and the combination hotel and restaurant makes it worth a booking. Do book in advance, for there are only seven guest rooms.
And you can even get married here!!!
