Daytrip to Stellenbosch Feb 28, 2013
Stellenbosch is a easy daytrip by car, maybe 50 minutes, or a bit slower by MetroRail, the train station is at the western edge of the town, a short walk to the center.

Founded 1679 by the Governor of the Cape Colony, Simon van der Stel, in the late 17 century some Huguenot refugees settled in Stellenbosch and grapes were planted, education began in earnest in 1859 with the opening of a seminary for the Dutch Reformed Church and in 1918 the University of Stellenbosch. Today Stellenbosch is a university and wine growing tourist town with a quite nice atmosphere.

The Stellenbosch Village Museum, Rynveld St. 37 is four adjacent houses, each a different period in the development of the city. Their interiors and their gardens had been restored and furnished to the style and taste of that time.
