Day trip to Pompei from Rome Pompeii Reviews
Day trip to Pompei from Rome Mar 21, 2011
First of all you need to take a train from Roma Termini to Napoli Piazza Garibaldi. For example you can take the fast-regional that leaves from Rome at 8.27 AM. The one-way ticket costs 10.50€ and the journey lasts 2h18'.
Once arrived in Napoli Piazza Garibaldi follow the signs for Circumvesuviana, which is a local railway network. You have to take the train to Sorrento and you have to get off when you reach the Pompei - Villa dei misteri scavi station. The journey last about 25 minutes.
For the Circumvesuviana train you need another ticket called Unico Fascia 3 that is sold near the gates that give you the access to platforms. Depending on the day of the week you can request:
* Daily Ticket - 4.70€
* Daily Ticket week-end edition - that is valid on Saturday-Sunday and any other Holiday - 3.80€
For more information about Circumvesuviana and how to reach Pompei (or Ercolano) follow that link: Circumvesuviana.
The price to visit the archeological sites of Pompei is 11€ (regular) or 5.50€ (discounted for EU citizends aged 18-24 and school teachers). All EU citizens under 18 or over 65 years old can enter the sites for free.
There is also an integrated ticket that grants the access for three days to all the 5 archeological sites (Herculaneum, Pompeii, Oplontis, Stabiae, Boscoreale) for 20€ (regular) or 10€ (discounted). You can easly reach all the five archeological sites with the same train (circumvesuviana directed to Sorrento).
The opening hours of Pompei's archeological site are the following:
* November - March: every day from 8.30 AM to 5 PM (last admission 3.30 PM)
* April - October: every day from 8.30 AM to 7.30 PM (last admission 6 PM)
The train to Sorrento usually leaves from the Circumvesuviana's station of Napoli Piazza Garibaldi from platform number 3 every half an hour. The last train from Pompei leaves at 10.05PM. After that time is very hard to reach Napoli.
To can back to Rome you have a couple of suggested options:
* Regional train which leaves at 8.31PM and arrives at 11.22PM in Rome (10.50€)
* InterCity train which leaves at 9.08PM and arrives at 11.36PM in Rome (20.50€)
If before heading back to Rome you want to taste one of the best Neapolitan pizzas, you can try Pizzeria Da Michele, it is close to Napoli's train station.
