Day trip to Pisa. Apr 09, 2017
Pisa is a town not far from Lucca. It is famous worldwide for its leaning tower.

This tower was built between the XII and the XIV centuries. Beside the tower here you can visit the cathedral, an ancient cloistered cemetery (camposanto monumentale) and the baptistery. These three monuments are located in piazza dei Miracoli (= Miracles square).

Another sight you shouldn' t miss in Pisa is piazza dei Cavalieri. Here stands the Scuola Normale (a university palace). It is housed inside the Palazzo della Carovana. Besides this palace you see the Palazzo dell' Orologio; a Medieval building where the torre della fame (the hunger tower) is embedded. A count; conte Ugolino, his sons and grandsons were let die of hunger into this tower. Dante wrote about this sad thing in the Inferno of the Divina Commedia.

A thing to do in the city could be a stroll along the Lungarni. These are the streets which border the Arno river.

You can go to Pisa from Lucca by bus. The journey takes around 40 minutes.
