Day Hike

A great way to see Sarajevo is from the hills surrounding the city. However, one must be careful to stay on the trails as land mines and UXOs still dot the landscape. One of the best views of Sarajevo is from the Muslim Cemetery located just above Inat Kuca. The easiest way to get there is to flag any taxi down and tell them to take you to Inat Kuca (pronounced eenat koocha). Once you reach the restaurant proceed up the hill to the right and keep walking. After about 10 minutes you will see a beautiful cemetery that offers breathtaking views of Sarajevo and the surrounding villages. Make your way back down the hill and stop at Inat Kuca for a tradition Bosnian meal. Then make your way across the river and head up into the hills above the old fortress, located opposite the cemetery. After about 20-25 minutes you should reach a fortress under construction which offers panoramic views of the city. Make your way back down through the old neighborhoods and stop at any of the bakeries along the way, as they all have delightful treats. To top off the day, make your way back into the old city and find a burek shop. Try the meat flavored (burek od mesa) and make sure to order a yogurt to wash it down.
