Davis Hotel Bangkok
Davis Hotel Bangkok Reviews
Business Style Hotel Nov 14, 2009
I picked this location off the internet the night before I left Chicago. It just looked and sounded good. My purpose was to have a comfy spot to crash and get the Jet Lag behind me. For that purpose it did its job. A bit pricey overall but a nice spot to land. Had the hotel limo pick me up at the airport,1500 baht, uniformed Thai lady met me, escorted me to the car, a new Mercedes. Cold towel in the car and ice water, excellent driver and great music. Its nice to come in after so many hours and not have to think. Arrived at hotel about 11PM , quick check in, free welcome drink in lounge Club 88 which was nice but "dead" and then up for a long shower. The rooms a very attractive and contemporary, Excellent bath with shower and tub. To beat to make it out on the street so room service with a glass of wine ( small glass of Red 330 Baht, very expensive by my thoughts) and some cable as I unpacked and then off to bed.
Bed was very firm ( to hard) but had a good nights sleep. Got up next day and had breakfast which is included and very extensive. Sat outside on deck and watched the street seen in the morning on my second coffee. I studied a map and found out where I was and saw only a few blocks from the BTS which is great easy travel around Bangkok but nothing really close to me but a nice neighborhood, several shops , resturants and spas for massage. I walked down the street and checked a few places out and went into the emporium grocery, checked out the wines and took a bottle to the checkout. The lady pointed to a sign and said could not sell it to me until 11 am, so back to the Hotel. Since I've been to Bangkok before and toured and will be back in a few weeks I didn't feel obligated to sightsee. My goal was to recharge so I went for the health club and spa. There are actually two fully equiped locations one in a very attractive courtyard with private pool and garden and one up on the roof. I went for a hour foot massage and a 90 minute swedish,It was heaven and then out to the rooftop pool to relax. After awhile freshened up and decided to go back over to the grocery for my wine. Picked another bottle out and went to checkout, the lady said she couldn't sell it to me and pointed to a sign , no liquor sales after 2 PM. I checked my watch it was 2:05, Next pportunity was 5 PM, I just wasn't going to have that wine. Back to the hotel and changed to go out for the evening, caught to BTS and headed down towards the river ,ran into several good places to snack and catch some drinks. Back to the Hotel, packed for my morning departure and arranged for a car back to the airport again. Overall damage for my two night recovery Hotel break about $450, Two nights, health Spa & pool, two breakfasts and 2 Limo rides. The hotel overall is very nice and no complaints but I could have done better. I would not stay here again primarily because of the location and dead nightlife. Next time closer to more action so I can just walk out the door and be there. |
