Funyak, Jet Boat adventure to Paradise, New Zealand Apr 05, 2009
If you're looking for an adventure around Queenstown but not the bungee jumping, skydiving type this is a fun option.
They take you on a jet boat ride up up the Dart River into a desolate area where much of Lord of the Rings was filmed. The town is literally named Paradise and it suits is well. You get off the jet boat and everyone uses a pump to air up your own "funyak"...think inflatable canoe. I went with my best friend and there were 3 other pairs and our guides. You canoe downstream for 2 hours, making a stop to eat lunch (bring it with you). You even paddle into a small canyon/caves. We went in July on a VERY VERY cold day, wearing a wetsuit. Even though it was quite cold it didn't stop us from enjoying this amazing adventure. This is a better option than just a jet boat tour that lasts only 10 minutes and more relaxing than a rafting tour. You can really take in the beautiful landscape.
