Daqing is located in northeast China, in the Heilongjiang province. It is relatively young; it was founded in 1959 as an oil drilling city. The city itself is not very large, although it is quite spread out as it comprises of numerous oil fields.
Since its establishment it has developed quite quickly, especially in the recent years. There are now major shopping chains such as Wal-Mart and Carrefour. There are also many few fast food outlets such as McDonald's, KFC, Dico's and Pizza Hut.
Daqing is a relatively flat city. There aren't any mountains, but there are numerous lakes in the surrounding area. Summer in Daqing can reach quite a high temperature, whereas Winter is plunged into freezing temperatures that often go below -30°C.
