A day trip beyond Kathmandu valley Feb 20, 2017
Winter is almost gone in Kathmandu and one off day I went for a day trip surrounding but beyond the valley names Daman, Kunchhal and Chitlang Village. We were total four person on four wheeler and headed to west of Kathmandu and down to Prithvi highway that connect to Kathmandu valley from rest of Nepal including Pokhara. The day was pleasant and sunny and air is fresh. The soft drive took us one and half hour to reach Naubise junction from where we split from Prithvi highway to Tribuvan highway up to the Daman pass. Tribuvan highway is old track to reach Kathmandu valley from southern belt of Tarai and only connecting road till 1980. The road is very winding with sharp turns and steep up. Max 40 I have seen on speed meter and crossing every little settlements or villages and stopping several times at little tea shops and we reached to Daman at 2488 mtrs from sea level. We have stopped several times to make us comfort from dizziness of altitude and belly twister winding road for hours. Of course I have not missed to take beautiful snaps of Himalayan range and foothills on the way.

Daman is at elevation of 2500 mtrs and accommodate little settlement of Sherpas. Taken lunch at Daman view tower resort: Dal Bhat and Kukhura ko Masu. Spent few minutes at view tower and telescopic view of mt. Everest. We went further up to the Sim bhanjyang pass, a stopover at the peak point of highway. Few local restaurants, tea shops with some sweets and tit bits available. Freshen up and stretching for 30 mins. Everest Panoramic View Resort is there but not good for night stay as they do not have good heating system in room and as per them even tap is frozen and warm water provided by bucket. We returned from Daman and headed to Kunchhal Village. This village is situated behind southern hill of Kathmandu valley. All well and uniform roofed houses could be seen from distance. All the houses within village built in same architecture. Looks so lovely and it must be good to stay here as being a volunteer at home stay. Reach in culture of this Newari village looks all depend on agriculture and cattle. No touristic and not much influenced by outer world. Few chocolates given to cute and smiling kids of village made them happy and we too.

After an hour drive we reached at Chitlang village and it was quite late and Sun is downing. We have headed to Chitlang Organic Village and found all cottage houses has been booked by other group trippers. Thus we took two cups of Coffee – organic coffee from nearby farms and some grilled non-veg food for evening course. View was pleasant, village houses was peaceful, some tents and cottage houses is around, all peach trees by the yard was leafless as its just passed the winter, cold breeze was still blowing. We didn’t get room so we didn’t go wandering around the village and that famous goat cheese factory nearby. We made plan to come this village next time for whole day and left for Kathmandu drive.
