The old town of Dali is one of the only old Chinese towns that is left with its city wall still around it. The main streets are built in the old architectural style, with very nice street lighting at night. You will find a large variety of shops, restaurants and places to stay for the night.

Many people who visit Dali choose to rent bikes and head out to the lake and/or the old pagoda for a nice day out. Another popular option is to go up the nearby mountains and spend the night in mountain-top guesthouses. There is also rock climbing, horseback riding, and other outdoor activities.
