Sight-Seeing in Dalhousie Oct 14, 2014
I've been to India 15 times (as of the time of this writing at least). I've been to 10 different cities, 2 of which are located in the Himalayan Mountains. The first was Leh, the second was this most recent trip to Dalhousie. How different of an experience this was from Leh! To start, the elevation is much lower (12,500' in Leh to about 6,000' in Dalhousie). The elevation was still enough to feel, but it was at an elevation that there was still quite a bit of vegetation and wild life. The mountains are rainy thus causing lots of green, and the wild life is tropical (such as the large monkeys) however, there are quite the cold winters there. Much of the local vistas are reminiscent of Alpen views which is why one of the most popular tourist attractions is actually called Little Switzerland. This is not the travel destination for the one-time India vacationer. However, for those of you that are truly look for the road less traveled in India, and especially if you are a fan of Mother Nature, Dalhousie (and Leh and the rest of the Indian Himalayas) should be on your list of essential "must-sees".
