Get back to nature! Apr 16, 2011
The Daintree Discovery Centre is located 2 hours drive north of Cairns. It's a little out of the way but well worth it if you can access your own vehicle.

The drive there is part of the experience with one of the most amazing coastal drives in the world and a car ferry crossing over the Daintree River where you might see the Salt Water Crocodile sunning itself on the banks!

There is a small cafe in the Centre which provides tea and coffee and light snacks. Make sure you bring insect repellant as it's $10 from there and you will need it!

The Centre is made up of boardwalks and pathways where you can explore each level of the rainforest in detail. If you're lucky you might even see a Cassowary!

In the middle of the Centre is the 23m high Canopy Tower to see right up to the top of the Rainforest.

Audio tours are available for hire and I would strongly recommend it as you get to here about the different wildlife and vegitation but also the local indigenous persons uses and beliefs about native plants and animals in the area.

If you are heading up to the Daintree Village, I would recommend visiting this attraction as it's a great way to understand exactly why this rainforest is so special.
