Cumberland Island is a protected island and as such there are limited ammenities provided. Be prepared to hike. Wear comfortable footwear - tennis shoes or sandals. Best to bring your own water and pack a lunch and whatever else you think you might need, i.e. bug spray, sandknat spray, advil, a hat, sun screen, binoculars, camera, etc. Bring what you think you will need and be prepared to carry it around. The waste recepticals are few and far between. 'Roughing it' is definitely worth the effort, this island's beauty is reminiscent of a past time in America's coastal history no longer found in other places along the eastern seaboard.
