Dade City is a town of about 6750 (up 9% since 2000) located at the intersection of U.S. Highways 98 and 301 a bit east of Interstate 75 in Pasco County in Central Florida not far from the Gulf of Mexico. A community called Fort Dade was established nearby in the 1870s, but the arrival of the railroad prompted the town to move a few miles to the railhead. The name of the town was changed to Dade City in 1884, and it incorporated in 1885. For some unknown reason they apparently incorporated again in 1889. Dade City is the home of fictional Showtime character "Dexter's" biological father. Dade City is the county seat of Pasco County which was established in 1887. Pasco County was named after Samuel Pasco a former member of the Florida House and a U.S. Senator. The Pasco County Courthouse was completed in 1909 using a Classical Revival design by famed architect Edward C. Hosford.

Dade City has a nice veteran’s memorial on the courthouse grounds honoring the nation’s veterans. I feel it is important to remember the sacrifices made by our veterans and their contributions to our freedom and our way of life.
