great cultural experience, alternate take on cinema. Dec 18, 2010
DVD Bangs (look for a DVD sign on the side of a building, they're often on the higher floors) are a great Korean cultural experience. They're like little cinemas; you go in and pick out a DVD, and can watch it with a friend in a small private room, as well as getting drinks or food delivered. Many Korean couples uses these rooms to...erm... meet, but the sheer originality of it (and the fact that it costs the same as going to the cinema) make it worth a look. They're in most neighborhoods in Seoul in big numbers, so easy to find. The Korean film industry's excellent - you should certainly see a local movie while you're here. I'd suggest the superb movie on two brothers in the Korean war, 'taegukgi', or a slightly gorey thriller called 'Oldboy', as both are genuinely international class, locally made films. Enjoy!
