DMZ Bar & Restaurant Hue Reviews
One address for a drink, a meal and party Jul 11, 2013
The DMZ bar and restaurant is hard to miss. Located on the corner of Le Loi and Pham Ngu Lao Street, it is right in the middle of the tourist quarter of Hue. Whether it is therefore or not, it surely is one of the most popular party places in the city.
We first ended up at this bar in the afternoon for a drink with fellow travel companions. It was fairly quiet then, but the really great music made us hang out there longer than we intended. Drinks are reasonably priced and there are always plenty of special deals going on; such as buy 2 beers, get one free or special priced cocktails. I had a strawberry daiquiri for 75000 VND which was small but very tasty.
Inside there are some tables and chairs, a large bar and a pool table. Then there's an upstairs where the restaurant is situated and a small terrace outside. On the premises is also a travel agency and I understood they even have their own hotel.
The most striking part about the interior is that the walls and ceilings are covered with people's names and writing. It's pretty much the same concept as in the Bodeguita del Medio in Havana. Of course I have to eternalize my name on their wall too.
Later that night we returned for dinner. Having been served a too meager meal in the first place we went, we returned to the DMZ for pizza. This time we were seated upstairs, on the narrow balcony. This is a great spot for overlooking the street life in the tourist quarter.
We were well looked after by waitress Hien, who was more than friendly. She made sure we were alright and offered lots of small talk and jokes. For sure the girl was also after a tip, but in a very pleasant manner, so then I do not mind at all. She also coaxed us to write something on TripAdvisor, but I told her that TravBuddy would have to do :-)
We ordered pizza, which turned out to be the best pizza we had in all of Vietnam. This comes as no surprise given that the DMZ is teamed up with "Little Italy", an Italian restaurant a bit further down the road. The pizza had a thin crispy crust and was exactly like the real Italian pizza should taste like. The crêpes Suzette we had for dessert were more than delicious too. I wanted to have ice cream added onto it (which was not on the menu) and this was arranged with a smile. Moreover, we never had to wait long to be served.
Before heading back to our hotel, we still had cocktails on the outside terrace. It was past 10PM and the terrace and bar were getting full. There are plenty of special deals for drinks. We had a cocktail of which I forgot the name, but this one had passion fruit. Since we bought two, there would have been a third one for free, but we passed up on this - to the bewilderment of the waiter.
Anyway, the DMZ surely is the place to part and to see and be seen in Hue. With always great deals on drinks, a tasty kitchen and the ever friendly staff, it surely has my thumbs up.

A decent bar Feb 15, 2010
DMZ Bar in Hue has been opened from 1994. Lacking the choices available in HCM, Hanoi, or Nha Trang, DMZ is probably the best option for a drink in Hue.
They offer several beers, including locally brewed Huda, Hue, and Festival beers. A bottle of these run less than 20.000 vnd. Along with wine, there are cocktails available ranging from 35.000 to 55.000 vnd.
Of course, there is music in the background as well as a pool table, which is usually occupied by both Vietnamese and foreigners.
Inside is also a restaurant and travel agency. Beware, because at times of the year there could be either promotions or service charges. For example, during Tet, a 20% service charge is added to each check. Conversely, during their anniversary, gifts are given out the with the purchase of beer, such as keychains, magnets, bottle openers, etc.
