just gotta take a few moments to plug the dive shop i got my open water at...super professional, very small groups, personalized attention, thorough instruction, up to date equipment and free accommodations for the duration of your open water course if you book online...(techdivethailand.com)
they are located right in the heart of sairee village, next to new heaven bakery and right across the path fropm papa's tapas. seriously, if you're gonna dive for the first time, you couldn't ask for a more patient, responsible (not to mention attractive) group to teach you, and if you're already a certified or advanced diver, they are one of only two tech diving schools on the island - so they know their shit (one of the owners, tim lawrence, has personally located 15 shipwrecks)... so, so happy i had these guys to show me the amazing world down below.
