DJ Skool@Sportscafe London Reviews
Popular Bar in Piccadilly Circus, London Jul 17, 2008
Writing a review on a bar can be quite difficult. I mean... we all have our different tastes and ideas of what we want and of what we expect. So... if I'm honest, the Sportscafe is not really a place where I have been regularly, or where I would go regularly. Not because I think it is rubbish, but simply because it is an American themed sports bar, and I don't really know that much about American sports. However, if you like your basketball, baseball and american football, then I couldn't think of a better place to go! I believe they show all the big games live at this dedicated American sports themed joint, and it's known to get pretty packed on a match day.
I was therefore quite surprised that we were hired to DJ there for the night, especially as it was July 4th... and American Independence Day. But what a great night we all had! Personally, I found the bar staff very polite and friendly. Also the crowd were happy and smiley and the atmosphere was nice and relaxed. When we cranked the tunes up a few decibels, it just seemed to ignite the crowd even more, and the dance floor was soon full of people enjoying their night. As always, I chatted to a few random people and it was obvious a good time was being had by all. I was even told by some guy that a Tuesday night is when it all kicks off big time party style... and let's be honest... that sounds perfect, as not many places can boast a Tuesday night to be their best! Good mid-week venue then? I would say so.
Drinks were the usual draught beers, bottled beers and spirits. At £3.50 a bottle, costs were average for central London too. I didn't have any food myself, but according to Audrey, it was fairly standard bar food at the prices you would expect to pay. I should have stolen a chip for a proper review on the food shouldn't I?
So... on reflection... would I go back? Yes I probably would, epecially as a DJ for the night, because it was packed full of people and the night was good fun. However, for a quite drink (or two) and a chat to friends, then I would possibly choose somewhere more cosey, further on into Soho. Oh... and guess what... rumour has it that Hugh Heffner wants to buy the place and turn it into a Playboy themed bar.... so definately not a place for a quiet drink or two and chat to friends then hey?
