D’ Vijff Vlieghen (The Five Flies) Reviews
#1Best Dining Restaurant in Amsterdam Mar 19, 2008
After a night of drinking, me and a buddy were hungry so after walking aimlessly around the Singel Centrum area we were staying at, I caught a glimpse of a Knight standing in a window. Like kids we stared into the window and next tried to figure out how to pronounce ' Vijff Vlieghen' in dutch and how to get inside the restaurant. To the right there is a alley and a overhang with the restaurant's name on there. There are no words to describe how under-dressed we were but with a 10 minute wait and no reservations we were treated with the upmost respect. This is a nice classy place, how funny we appeared, the 2 americans in jeans , the chick wearing a 'pot leaf' shirt, her companion showing off his newly finished tattoo. The food was pricey but soo good. And dessert was soo worth it and good. My dutch sucks no i cannot recall the names of what we order. Located on Singel 355, 1012 WK Amsterdam, Netherlands

Feb 04, 2005The 'Five Flies', one of the world's (or at least Amsterdams) most famous restaurants. oozing old-world charm with antiques and Rembrandt etchings on the Spui. It offers traditional dutch fare with a nouvelle twist and presents an ever changing menu. Brass plaques on the chairs remind diners of the famous names like Orson Welles and Walt Disney who have patronised the establishment that occupies five historic houses in central Amsterdam. Definetly a must to visit on my every trip through Amsterdam. Part of the Europe & Africa - Summer 2005 travel blog |
