this city grows on you Nov 23, 2008
Cusco is one of the highest elevation cities in the world at an elevation of about 3300m (10,000 ft). It was built by the Incas as a center of their empire. The city was laid out in a pattern to resemble a puma. Several of the original Inca walls still exist. These walls are composed of stones that were cut to fit together without mortar. These walls were so well built that they have survived several earthquakes. It is because of these walls that Cusco became a UNESCO site in 1983.
Cusco has several nice restaurants and places to hang out. The main plaza, Plaza de Armas, is surrounded by churches and shops. The ruins of Sacsayhuaman sit on the hillside behind Cusco. Most attractions, restaurants, shopping areas and transportation hubs are within walking distance of the Plaza de Armas. Once you become acclimated to the high altitude, you will better enjoy this city. Part of the Amigas Bonita do Peru travel blog |

Cusco is an amazing city. At first when we arrived, I felt though as if it wasn't that beautiful as everyone described it. Then again, your first impression can be changed. And it has, really Cusco is amazingly beautiful. It has to offer great shops, great lifestyle, great cuisine and ofcourse great people. We had this shop, called 'Shaman Shop', which I think we went about 4 times back there. It was filled with indian things and meditation elements, it was gorious. The city itself is real ancient and is builed out of beautiful stones. This is the city where you have to be, if you want to know and see more about the inca's. This city is all about the inca's and you can see it in the buidlings, in the people and you can even feel it. This is such a beautiful city, you have got to have been there.

I kept a journal while in Peru. It's a few years old, and I typed it up all as one entry, mainly because I have no idea what the exact dates are. Headings indicate the basic setting for each entry.
Written on the plane to Lima:
