Seriously consider bypassing Cucuta.

It has nothing of note to attract visitors other than the fact it is the border crossing to Venezuela. The border is open 24 hours and it is possible to stay in San Cristobal in Venezuela.

On to the Venezuelan border at Cucuta

Even though I had been assured that there were hourly buses from 5am operated by the same company as the nice bus the day before, when I turned up at the terminal at just after 8am this turned out to be rubbish and the only transport I could find was transport more local in flavour and approaching a collectivo. However for the short 2 hour ride to Cucuta it was no problem and I was happy to be moving on as apart from this there seemed to be few options until the afternoon.
