Croydon Hotel Bournemouth Reviews
A cheap friendly family run hotel Feb 17, 2011
We were supposed to being flying to Amsterdam and our flight was cancelled! It was bank holiday weekend and we were not about to let a small thing like flights ruin our weekend. We hopped in the car and made our way down to Bournemouth, driving around for ages we couldn’t find a hotel, bnb or hostel with a room spare! We parked the car and headed out on foot when we stumbled upon the “Croydon Hotel”
We called into the hotel and a lovely lady by the name of Sandra checked the books and found us a free room in the hotel. Sandra very kindly accommodated us and gave us a lovely big room with sea view, it was quote lovely. This was unfortunately on the top floor, so there was copious amounts of stairs to climb up, but we didn’t mind, we were just happy to be able to lay are head somewhere! I would say that the building is old and for some, walking up and down the steep stairs maybe a challenge!
The rooms itself was clean, tidy and well equipped with and some basic toiletries which was a nice surprise, the bathroom was a bit on the small side with a shower and very small basin which we had trouble getting the kettle under but the ground floor room was ok and it was clean a comfortable which was the main thing to consider for us anyway.
To be fair although lovely the only gripe I would have is that the hot water was a bit inconsistent in our shower and there are no power points for shaver / electric tooth brush, but Sandra provided a converter so do ask if you need anything!
A bit of a funny hotel in that you have to book a time slot for breakfast, we didn't realise this and Sandra and her hubby were great and fitted us in without any bother at all. This isn't really a big issue and now we know, will be consider our Brekkie time for our future stay’s at this quaint family run seaside hotel. The breakfast itself id varied and offer both continental full English Breakfasts, which was nice and a good decent portion size, plus you can ask for seconds if you want for no extra cost.
Like most UK towns parking can be a nightmare and very costly. The Croydon Hotel however offers FREE on street parking, although it was a bit of hassel to find a spot at first we found a space. To be fair there are so many hotels and guest houses in the area with the same problem but at least it was free, which was a total bonus.
The location of the hotel is very good once we found our way about and is close to the town a sea front, which was handy. Bournemouth has a pretty good bus service so even if you not a fan of walking, this is a great secondary option.
All in all, this hotel is good value for money. It's clean, rooms are fairly spacious, nice owners and in a very good location for the beach and city centre. We had a lovely stay hear and have since returned to the Croydon Hotel for weekends away and mini breaks to the sea.
