Crowne Plaza Muscat Reviews
Pleasant hotel in Muscat Jun 05, 2011
My stay at this hotel started out with a friendly welcome, a helping hand to carry my suitcases to the lobby and generally smiling faces. I appreciated that after the long trip.
The hotel's lobby is large, cool and perhaps a little impersonal. They could use a few sofas or comfortable places to sit while waiting for people or to check in. There are a number of tables with chairs that are fine for something to drink or for doing a little work.
At check-in, the gentleman at reception asked if I would like to sign up for a mileage program - one of the well-known ones. I decided to sign up since I will most likely be coming back often and was rewarded with an upgrade to a room with a nice view over the pool area and sea below. The room is huge, more than necessary for one or even two people and was very nice indeed. The bed was very comfortable, everything was extremely clean and smelled good too, the personnel in general is very friendly. My room was a no-smoking room. I am not sure if rooms where smoking is permitted are available or not, but it's probably just as well to smoke less and head out to the terrace if needed!
The hotel has a nice swimming pool and garden / patio area and a private beach which was also very nice to visit. The pool was super clean as was the beach area. The water at the beach was very warm and extremely clean and transparent. I am sure there must be great diving / snorkeling around here.
After my initial arrival, it was pretty late and I was hungry. The pub / bar in the hotel had a number of things to offer, even late in the evening as well as plenty of different beverages, both alcoholic and non alcoholic. During the following days at the hotel I was there a few times for a late dinner or drink. There are activities for expats a few evenings a week and the place really filled up when those things were going on.
About breakfast: Hotel breakfasts are one of my favorite things and this one was not disappointing. There were things for a variety of tastes and customs and there was a fantastic selection of fresh fruit.
Finally, check out was quick and efficient. I liked the way that the manager there asked me to sit down by his desk while he prepared everything. the service and staff had a few details with me in general that made me feel very welcome.
This is my first trip to Muscat and my first stay at a hotel here. I found it pretty expensive, but according to work colleagues the prices there are fair market prices for the area. I wouldn't mind staying here again at all.
