Curiously Quiet - Ok stay - No complaints Feb 26, 2016
The Cité Internationale area of Lyon lies between the Rhône River and Parc de la Tête d'Or, Lyon's large urban park. This is a fairly new area of Lyon, which underwent development from the late 1990's to 2006, concluding with construction of L'amphitheatre and this Crowne Plaza hotel. There is easy access here with bus, tram and metro. There are many restaurants and some shops that populate the corridor between buildings going away from L'amphitheatre, where the Crowne Plaza hotel is located next to. Part of this corridor area down the way was closed off for construction of some sort, so I wasn't able to see it all. I saw enough to see its potential though.

This seems to be a failed development I think based on my observations that it's rare to see many people here, and crowds only surface when there is a show at L'amphitheatre. Otherwise, morning, day and night it is just an occasional jogger, bicyclist, or couples having a stroll. Perhaps the problem is that the design of the place has it boxed in with buildings and didn't really take advantage of the natural landscapes of the river on one side and the park on the other side. It's hard to see why this wasn't taken advantage of, and a missed opportunity to open the place up to what was already there rather than become something separate from that.

This is a fine hotel if you like peace and quiet with little happening outside your window. It's smaller than you might expect for a Crowne Plaza and the lobby consists of the reception and a small sitting area. There is an adjoining bar on one side of the lobby area (called 'Le Lounge Bar'), and a restaurant on the other side (called 'Le Bistro'). The rooms themselves are decent size with comfy beds and big TV. Free water and wifi (two things which I always like) and a hotpot machine for making cocoa, coffee or tea (supplied in the room). A mini bar fridge is available for purchase of items, and a spot reserved inside for ones own storage use (no charge).

There is nothing to complain about in this hotel, and the staff are very friendly and accommodating too. The restaurant is good also (though I only had breakfast here) with some extended variety (bacon, eggs, potato, deli meats, cereal, croissant, pastry, yogurt, fruit, juices, coffee and tea). Other restaurants are just steps, though I didn't try any of them. It's just curiously quiet here and lacks a bit of life maybe. Not a bother to me and my kind of place, but others may find the environment too subdued.
