Good location but noisy, and a bit dumpy Jun 06, 2008
Convenient location to Power & Light District, a short and safe walk.
I, too, had a non-working elevator from the parking garage and no notifcation. I stayed there the end of June. All stairwell doors were locked so we had to walk into incoming traffic on the narrow ramp to get down 3 floors to the lobby. Poor! We stayed on the executive floor but kids were playing in the elevator and screaming through the halls. So much for extra security and quietness. Bartender in lobby bar was very slow and not friendly. I think we woke her up (at 4pm) because she was a bit of a crab when we ordered our free martini (given one complimentary at check-in). The sleep number bed was like a camping mattress that was slightly deflated by morning. The room on the 18th floor had a nice view though. Summary: Good location, doesn't offer much else. For the money I feel robbed. Part of the Kansas city - the best 8 seconds of my life travel blog |

Seen Better Days Jun 20, 2008
I booked the Crowne Plaza through Priceline.com. I was looking for a 4 star hotel on the cheap. I got a good rate, but it did not live up to the 4 star rating.
The Crowne Plaza is a converted Radisson Hotel. It's situated at 13th and Wyandotte right downtown. It is very convenient to the KC Power and Light District -- in fact, its a very easy walk. The hotel itself is dated. Worn carpet, rooms that feel like they are from the 80's, dated bathrooms. The bed is a sleep comfort bed, where you can adjust your sleep number. I give the bed the highest rating for my stay. The restaurant had a decent buffet for breakfast, although the service was slow. If you are just looking for convenience, a bed and a shower, the hotel it's fine. If you are looking for a 4 star experience, keep looking. Part of the Kansas City TravBuddy Meet Up travel blog

The place is obviously converted from a Radisson.
It has the sleep number beds, but they are the inexpensive, noisy models. The hotel is in need of serious renovation. On my arrival day, the elevator from the parking garage to the lobby was out of order. I was standing at the fucking thing for about 5 minutes before someone walking by mentioned that it was having issues. A note would have been nice. I'll never stay here again. |
