Experience the making of crystal Apr 25, 2009
After the Cistercian Abbey in Seraing (just outside Liege) was closed down after the French Revolution, it was taken over as a crystal manufacturer. Val Saint Lambert, the company that built on the site, became the largest exporter of crystal in the world, employing thousands of crystal makers. The business collapsed with the world wars, but was rescued by the Belgian government to maintain the brand, and now a small mostly artisan workshop operates in the Abbey.

The tour of the workshops was surprisingly interesting, with good movies and videos of the history and practise of crystal making. The demonstration was excellent and the grounds and displays are also interesting to walk through.

€12 for adults, €10 seniors, €6 children (6-18)

Open 10am to 5pm
