10K Road Race through historic and beautiful New Orleans! Apr 13, 2009
The Times Picayune called it the "Great Move". Over 19,000 people signed up and participated in this years' Crescent City Classic. The race starts near historic Jackson Square in the French Quarter, takes you through the bustling business district, and then up Esplanade with century hold New Orleans style homes...finally landing you in City Park...where you will celebrate, breathe heavy, and enjoy great music and food!

It was my first year participating and I plan to do it every year I am able. I also had never run more 3.5 miles or so but managed to complete the easy 6.2 in a little over an hour. Winners finish in under 30 minutes!!! I say easy 6.2 because the race is flat and much of it is done in the shade. However, New Orleans sun in strong so wear your sunscreen. The race begins at 8:30 in the morning to beat the hot hot sun.

Don't forget to dress up!
Hundreds of people that are walking the course, or running just for fun, will dress up. Because the race is around Easter there are lots of ears and tails. I even wore one, and I must say...the comments people make as you jog past them are enough to keep you going! People who stand on the side of the road to watch will often cheer you on or say crazy things to make you laugh. Many play loud music to motivate, many play live music to entertain. I even saw a few generous people racking up their monthly water bill by standing with their hose and spraying off the hot runners! (wear a white t-shirt for extra giggles).

I HIGHLY recommend this event to anyone! Many families participate together, I think I was passed up by a gentlemen with a triples jogging stroller! Couples, friends, young, and old...all enjoyed the day. And what is an event in New Orleans known for if not the celebration afterwards!

At City Park after the race there is live music, fruit, food, beer, water, gatorade, and guess what...it's all FREE to race participants, and only $5 for friends and family who want in too!
