The North Gateway to Your Visit to Redwood Nat'l Park Jul 09, 2013
If you are like us who do not know a lot about the Redwood Parks, and you are within Crescent City, the city information center should be your starting point.

This center provides orientation, information, and trip planning advice.

Park rangers are on duty and always friendly to help you with any question you may have.

The center is a medium size room but most of the print-out guides to the park are available here like; maps, park brochures, hotel guides, restaurant guides, publications and more.

A mini-bookstore inside is operated by Redwood Parks Association. They carry not just books but also various souvenir items, t-shirts and other clothing apparel. Proceeds from sales go back to the parks to fund events, exhibits, signs and publications.

Themed-exhibits are usually hosted in an adjacent pavilion but we did not have enough time to visit that area.

A live video feed from Castle Rock National Wildlife Refuge is shown here. Again, we didn’t have time to stay longer to watch…

You can also get parks’ stamps here if you are collecting in your passports.

If you have kids they also have a Junior Ranger workbook. In fact two junior rangers were awarded with their certificate and patch at the time we were there.

A picnic area is set just at the courtyard of the vicinity.

There is an access to clean and well-supplied restrooms.

I really feel that these Welcome/Information centers are necessary for people on road trips. We always make it a point to stop at one whenever we cross a state line or enter a big city. Not only can we get free maps and brochures, there are also restroom facilities. The staff at these centers are helpful too, and at some places there's free coffee available. At Florida welcome centers, there's even free orange and grapefruit juice!
