Crescent Beach State Park Cape Elizabeth Reviews
A shore bet in Portland Jun 19, 2010
Of the many beach options around Portland, Crescent Beach is near the top of the list, especially if you have children. The beach is sheltered and although you won’t get any serious wave action, this is just what the doctor ordered for toddlers. The beach features some wonderful facilities. There are life guards, well maintained (and spacious) bathrooms and showers…even a snack bar!
Our return to Maine reinforced another important facet of Crescent Beach: a lot of parking spaces. We had been annoyed by a massive traffic jam trying to drive past Higgins Beach the day before and recalled how limited the parking is there. Getting in and out of Crescent Beach is a lot easier here than most other beaches around Portland.
Yet another feature of Crescent Beach is a series of trails. I’m not recommending this for a hiking adventure, but there are some interesting quick jaunts to be made (when you are facing the beach, turn right and climb over the red hill – it is still on the grounds and quite interesting). The only bummer is that like every other beach in Maine, the damn water is freezing cold!!!
