Crave Bloomington Reviews
So good you might lose your religion Mar 26, 2010
Crave is one of the newer restaurants in the Mall of America, and one of the classier. Located on the third floor, it has a section of seating that overlooks the indoor amusement park, Nickelodean Universe. They advertise as "Fresh - Vibrant - American" and offer a nice variety of menu choices.
Michael, Bill and I stopped here to celebrate Michael's birthday. As it was a Friday night, we had a little bit of a wait so we went to the bar and got Stella on tap. After a few minutes, we were seated at a table near the grill. The food was prepared behind a high counter and the plates of food would be placed on the counter for the servers to take away. Every once in a while we could see flames shoot up from behind the counter. It was very efficient and food and wait staff were constantly on the move.
We had a fantastic server, Jakub, who was very excited to tell us about the menu. At one point, he introduced the Baked Truffle Macaroni as so delicious you will lose your religion (or something like that). The menu items were a little pricey, but mostly because we were used to cheap food at the Mall. They have a wide variety of Sushi, a few sandwiches and burgers, salads, meat entrees, pasta, pizza and flatbread. The menu had a little bit of an Asian flair with the Sushi, edamame, Thai chicken and Ahi tuna.
Michael ordered the Ahi tuna and it was so delicious - it just melted in your mouth! (He graciously shared with us). Bill had the spaghetti pomordoro and devoured it. I had the Grape Apple Flatbread, but I had to ask if there really were grapes on it - and there were. It was one of the few vegetarian options and it was wonderful! It had amablu cheese, Honeycrisp apple, rosemary and grapes. Yum. The food was outstanding! We were all extremely satisfied with our choices. The food was also artistically prepared - that is, it looked as good as it tasted!
For dessert, Michael got an ice cream sundae for his birthday. I ordered the Smiley Cookie - it was a big chocolate chip cookie with a frosted on smiley face, with a donation to the Smile Network Charity (Crave partners with a different charity each month). It also came with a glass of milk. It was good, but would have been better if it was heated up. But then I guess the frosting might melt. Between the three of us, we cleaned up the desserts.
The service was outstanding. Our server was often in the area and very attentive to his tables. He was very friendly and joked with everyone. He knew the menu and gave good recommendations. He paid attention to when our drinks were low and we never had to flag him down for anything. Another busboy (maybe?) was often coming through to remove empty dishes and glasses and refilling water. The manager even stopped by to see how our meal was and to explain a little bit about the restaurant. It was a very friendly, warm, inviting atmosphere. It had the nicer, classier restaurant look, but all of the customers were dressed very casually (we were in a mall, after all). There were lots of families and couples and groups of friends. The restaurant was mostly full the entire time.
They also have happy hour from 3-6 pm and 9-10 pm Monday through Friday, and 9-10 pm on Saturday with specials on drinks and appetizers, including sushi. I will definitely have to come back sometime for happy hour and to try other menu items. Monday nights from 6:30-8:30, they offer a wine class where you sample wines from different regions and learn about tasting, and which wines complement different foods. Check the calendar for the schedule (which of the three locations) and reservations are required.
Crave has three locations in Minnesota right now - this one, one at the Galleria in Edina, and one at the Shops at West End in St. Louis Park. They are in the process of opening one in Orlando and hope to add a few more locations nationwide.
