Cozumel is a Caribbean island located off of Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula. Cozumel is a popular port for cruise goers and is well known in the scuba communities. In 1959 Jacques Cousteau discovered the beauty of the coral reefs just south of Cozumel and broadcasted that it was one of the best places to go scuba diving in the entire world.
The Mayan civilization were the first to settle the island in the early part of the first millennium, AD. Relics of from this time period can be found on the mainland but are limited on the island. Cozumel is also known for as a shopping port and there are over 100 restaurants on the 30 x 16 miles island. Cordenates: 20°30′N 86°57′W

Bienviendo to the home of sombreros,
tequila, and bull fighting...or is it? Mexico is full of stereotypes and I saw
none of them first hand. The only sombreros I saw were on the heads of frat
boys and a group of Marines who just got back from Iraq. I saw no matadors
strolling the streets nor did I see any salsa dancing or maracas. Instead, I
found a beautiful city nestled on the Caribbean Sea.

This would be our second day without a port. Tomorrow would be our last full day of the cruise so we knew the end was in sight. But, it wasn’t here yet, so we still had sun to soak up and things to do. After we slept in, of course. We missed our normal breakfast, but nobody complained. Finding food was not exactly hard. The first thing I see when I get off the cruise ship at Cozumel is not exotic flora nor charming landscape. It is a construction site for a concrete strip mall that blocks the view of the island. I guess this is so that people in the future can hop off the ship, grab a flame-broiled Whopper from Burger King, and spend a pleasant afternoon shopping in the cool of air-conditioned shade, all without the inconvenience of actually seeing the island.The strip mall is not finished yet, so instead we...
