Crazy Cowley Road Jan 30, 2017
Cowley Road is Oxford's alternative backbone. It's along this road where you can feel the city's multicultural heart beating - numerous restaurants ranging from tacky burger stalls to exotic Bangladeshi places, lots of tiny shops selling everything from plastic crap for 1 GBP to giant sacks of Indian spices or from flowers to massages, some great bars and a raucous nightlife, a superb independent cinema - you name it, and it's there.

Cowley Road is busy no matter what time of the day, but it's definitely busiest during the Cowley Road Carnival, an annual event celebrating the different cultures and in July 2014 attracting more than 45,000 people. But any other evening is fine as well - a mixture of shoppers, clubbers, pub crawlers, beggars, devout Muslims, restaurant goers, students on their way to a party somewhere and many more.

For some great Italian food on Cowley Road, try out Mario's, for shopping the most exotic spices pop into the green shop diagonally across Tesco's, for hamburgers eat at the almost-famous Atomic Burger, for some sophisticated culture watch films at The Ultimate Picture Palace... Drink cocktails and tuck into tapas at Kazbar and many others or listen to some famous bands at The O2 Academy - but don't miss visiting Cowley Road!
