Great place to stay near Joint Forces Command-JFCOM Dec 27, 2009
I visited the Joint Forces Command-Joint Warfighting Center (JFCOM-JWFC) complex in Suffolk, Virginia and found this Marriott Courtyard property to be one of the best lodging facilities to accept the government per diem rates in the area. I was impressed with the staff who was very friendly and supportive of the military. The location is within walking distance of the main JFCOM complex, but it is centered in a new industrial complex with many contractor companies nearby which also host JFCOM events.
There is a nearby place for ribs/steaks, but I did not eat here during my short 3-day stay. There is a strip mall with a Wal-Mart and several food outlets also nearby. It would be a long walk across the I-664 interchange to get there or to the main JFCOM complex, but "doable" if you don't have a rental car. You do need a rental car if you need to get to the hotel since there is no shuttle service and everything in the Hampton Roads area is very spread out.
Apparently the TownePlace Suites (also by Marriott) is immediately adjacent to the Courtyard and they share the pool.
This place is very clean, has a huge breakfast bar with hot food, and a small garden area with a gazebo in the back. The one downside experience I had was my room did not get serviced the first day becasue I was the last room of the day and the friendly staff was going home for the end of their shift--but no biggie for me since I didn't need much except sleep after flying in from Europe. It was well soundproofed and I was able to sleep great, despite being so close to the expressway. The bed was extra comfy--I noted the fine linen sheets installed.
Marriott Courtyard Suffolk Chesapeake is immediately adjacent to the Marriott TownePlace Suites. Courtyard is better!Marriott Courtyard Suffolk Chesapeake was the nicest place in the continental US I've stayed in during 2009 on government business.
