Courchevel Vacation Guide
Courchevel is a beautiful ski area located in the French Alps in France. It forms part of Les Trois Vallees (the three valleys), the other two main ski valleys being Meribel and Val Thorens although there are 5 other valleys with their own resorts also included in the region.
There are four towns within Courchevel - 1300, 1550, 1650 and 1850 - all named for their altitudes in metres. Courcheval has one of the shortest runways in the world at its airport. Many people choose to come into the towns via train then bus because flying in can be a dangerous approach through deep valleys.
The ski area itself is renowned for its difficult black runs and has one of the largest bases for ski intructors due to the size of the three valleys area.
Be warned however, Courcheval may be beautiful but it is by no means cheap. A favourite location for many wealthy Russian elites it is common to see high-end brand shops littered throughout the towns with price tags that will make you dig deep into your pocket. Definitely not a town for those looking for a budget ski holiday.
One of the best parts about staying in Courcheval is that you can literally ski straight up to your hotel. If you stay at any of the towns they are all linked by cablecars so if you ski down to Courcheval 1550 from 1850 you can ride right back up on the gondela. Taking the cablecar up all the way to Courchevel's highest point is breathtaking and you can have lunch or breakfast on multiple spots all over the mountain.
