Shawnee KS is part of the greater Kansas City area, with an attraction

to people who like to walk and/or bicycle. Not only are there

marked areas on the streets for bicyclists to use, but the Shawnee

Mission Lake Park has paved off-road walkways for the safety of all the

people who walk or bike around the lake. This is a great area for

fishing, bird watching, wild life spotting, a separate no-leash beach

area for dogs,and seasonal swimming.

By exiting I-435 (Kansas side) at Midland Drive, you have the option of

staying at two local hotels plus several restaurants, a movie theater,

Yo's Donuts, and more in the West Glen shopping area. The Lake is

south, up the hill past the bowling alley on Renner Road. In the

summer, there are plays in the area just north of the park.

Midland and I-435 are just a few miles south of the new Village West

shopping, sports, and dining area. After going north from the

Midland exit, take the west State Avenue exit by turning east off

I-435. A new water park is being planned to be built here, to go

with the T-Bones baseball team, NASCAR, Cabela's Sporting Goods,

Nebraska Furnature Mart, Legends, shops, restaurants, and hotels. For more information see: http://members.aol.com/Sftrail/shawnee/index.html http://members.aol.com/Sftrail/bonner/todo.htm

I used to go to this park when I lived in Olathe. It's nice to have someone who sings the praise of my old stomping grounds. The Kansas City area is a great place to live...and visit!
