Country Inn & Suites Intercontinental Airport Houston

A departure from my usual routine of driving back to Houston Airport (from College Station) the morning of my return flight was to get the road trip out of the way the night before and put up at a hotel with shuttle service. Much more relaxed since early morning traffic towards the city is a nightmare, and this resulted in the pleasantry of enjoying the Country Inn Suites. Unfamiliar with this chain, I was admittedly charmed by their folksy lodgings, which featured a lobby resplendent in wood, carpeting and even a faux fireplace (which normally would have struck me as an abomination, but being so close to the airport this was somehow comforting). I was similarly pleased that the shuttle service arrived promptly after I phoned from the airport that I needed a ride – this has often proved to be a frustrating eternity.

The rates are wildly reasonable for the location and square footage of your room, though there isn’t much around in the neighborhood. I always strike out on foot for dinner and settled on Kettle after passing a Taco Bell and Subway, and it was not a wonderful experience. Regardless, when I got back to the lobby I noticed they had a bookshelf where you could take whatever you liked and if not finished before you checked out, you were entitled to return it at the next Country Inn Suites you stayed at. Gotta love a place that encourages reading and the honor system!
