Cotabato City, derived from the Tagalog phrase, Kutang Bato, which means "Fort of Stone," is the primary trade & commercial center in the southwestern Mindanao region.

Places to go include the heritage site Old City Hall, Our Lady of Lourdes Grotto, which is a replica of Our Lady of Lourdes Grotto in France, Tamontaka Church - the olderst church in the city -, Kutang Bato Cave, found in the heart of the city, & the Takumi Butai Memorial Shrine, where some of the ashes of Takumi Butai, the provincial commader of the Japanese forces assigned in the city during the World War II, as well as the other soldiers who died during the war, were buried.

Numerous festivities are also held throughout the year including the Shariff Kabunsuan Festival, Holy Month of Ramadhan, Feast of the Immaculate Conception, & Araw ng Kutabato.

Cotabato's pride includes malong, brassware, & of course, as it is dubbed as the Land of Crabs, cheap crabs & prawns.
