Costco Kona Kailua Kona Reviews
Costco - Hawaii Jun 20, 2009
When you are in Hawaii many things are a bit higher priced. We were surprised to see that costco was recommended in several guide books. We went in to check it out....
Like everywhere Costco is crowded and popular. We weren't sure what to expect. The photo counter is as you first walk in the door. The food court is as you exit..that's the same. The best surprise about Costco Hawaii was the food area. They carried large bags of greyish purple poi for $9.99. They had Lua Lua and Kulua beef. There was an amazing display of shrimp, fish and lobster. The Volcano wine (macadamia nut and honey) was $12.99 which beat it any where else we saw it by several dollars. We also saw they carry local Kona brewing company beer. (Really brewed in Kona) We bought a case to support local industry. We were amused by english muffins that were poi flavored. It was so good we bought more the second trip in.
I loved the plants and flowers they had for sale and photographed the orchids... huge variety ... great prices....
Although it is a big box store I think Costco has tried to support locals too. Much more than the Costco in Eureka, CA. Overall the prices were good. We would recommend it to other travelers .... it would be good to also support "locals" at the other markets which you would do as Costco only has large bags of things... Who wants 20 pounds of potatoes for a 5 day visit?.... :)
Finally, I would like to mention Costco has gas priced competitively... ....................
