Cosmos Hotel Chisinau

I really liked this hotel but it wouldn't be to everybody's taste. If you want modernity forget it. As a cheap option for a great location it is ideal. No more than E30 per night for a comfortable room in a hotel just a 5 minute walk from Chisinau train station, perfect after a whole day on the train from Kiev. There is a coffee bar next to the reception which will happily serve travellers coming off the overnight train from Bucharest. Inside the Cosmos is a classic former Soviet Union style hotel. Decor probably hasn't changed since the 1970s. Wonderfully kitsch wallpaper, bedding and carpets will take you back in time. Showers were good, seem to have been updated. Rooms also come with a good sized fridge, balcony and satellite TV with English channels.
Breakfast was great, one of the best I've had, but ruined by the playing of non stop rave and house music in the dining room at full blast which is not everyone's thing at 8 in the morning. Special mention of the wonderful ladies on reception. Very helpful and friendly, a pleasure to deal with.
