Grand Cafe - indulge in luxury Apr 02, 2017
The Grand Cafe Coselpalais, located next to the Frauenkirche, is *the* place for fancy cakes. They also serve full meals, lunch and dinner, but I haven't tried those yet, and their (fancy) cakes are not to beat! That's what draws me back to the place, again and again :-) That, and the ambience.

The building was destroyed in the bombing in 1945 and reconstructed in the 1990s. Lots of stucco, gold, chandeliers, the cakes and coffee/tea are partially served on Meissen porcelain - you get the picture.

I highly recommend the "Haustorte", their specialty fancy cake. Tea is also excellent, so are the coffee specialties. Their selection of regional and international wines is also very good and recommended.

Example from a visit in May 2013: I had their Harlekin Torte (fancy cake, see pic 3), absolutely delicious. Not too sweet, not too rich - just perfect. The dark chocolate on top didn't split into a dozen pieces when you dug into it, it was somewhat soft, right how I like it. Tea (Darjeeling) was also perfect. Afterward we had a long drink, Grapefruit liquor with German sparkling wine (Sekt) - yummy.

In summer 2014 I went to Coselpalais with friends from Australia and we each had a piece of different fancy cakes: Sachertorte, Black Forest cake, raspberry-whipped cream fancy cake and lemon-cream fancy cake with chocolate topping. Everything was out of this world. Ditto the chocolate with ice cream, latte macchiato, cafe au lait and cappuccino. A feast, for about 30 Euro if I recall correctly.

Service is attentive and friendly.

Pic 6 shows their fancy cakes counter ... mouth watering, isn't it?

Ingo, with 8 uses of the word "fancy" in just one review, this is indeed a fancy review. *winkygrin*
