A day walk around the loch Nov 30, 2012
Another walk in the Highlands, this one more Central West. You can make the walk in a day taking morning train as there is a station in Corrour. Once you get off, you seem to be in the end of the world. I was lucky, as there was really just a few people - such a quiet place it was. You get of at a former railway station - a hostel now and you can see immediately a hill called Leum Uilleim - the name is not well known, but if a movie Trainspotting is mentioned, you might get an idea about the scene in the mountains. The part of the movie was filmed exactly here! You go closer to the Loch Ossian and you can choose a turn, either to the right or left near another hostel near the loch. I chose the right turn and walked around the loch. Not much description, just see photos. On the other side of the loch you come to Corrour Shooting Lodge - an example of modern architecture. I found it all right, even in that area. You continue back on the other side of the loch. If fancy to see more, you can turn to the right and follow tracks to see more views to a bridge in the direction to Loch Treig and back to the station. The area is full of peat and bogs, so it's good to be wise, wiser than I was. I was returning and about 50 yards to the station I plunged into the peat, just the trousers got a hit and it was a sunny day, so managed to get 'civil' again before boarding a train. Have a great walk without experiencing such a plunge :-) .
